One of the most important things that reading can do is to stimulate the mind. It’s crucial that we keep our brains active throughout our lives so that as we age, we don’t start to suffer from cognitive decline. It is thought that reading can help to reduce the likelihood of developing conditions like this, so the more reading you can do, the better.
Any kind of reading will provide mental stimulation. You might choose to read a website that talks about understanding the Book of Revelations, you might read an autobiography, you might read poetry or fiction, horror or romance, or you might prefer to read blogs and magazines. The choice is yours, as all reading is good for your brain.
Better Vocabulary
Having a wide vocabulary is a great thing. It means you can always put your point across and ensure that people understand what you’re saying. With a good vocabulary, there is less chance of misunderstanding and things going wrong.
One excellent way to improve your vocabulary is to read more. The more you read, the more words you’ll learn, and you’ll also learn the context to use them. This will broaden your vocabulary and give you the confidence to use the words yourself when you are speaking. One word of caution, however; if you’ve only ever seen the word written down, it might be wise to check to see how it is pronounced so you can use it in the right way.
