How To Clean Up After A Party

Parties are a lot of fun, but if you’re the host, there’s one thing you’ll need to consider once everyone has gone home and the music has stopped: you’ll have to clean up. That’s not a fun thing to do, and it can be tempting to leave it to the last minute or rush through the job, but that only leads to stress and problems like stains you didn’t notice that are then harder to deal with, for example. That’s why it’s far better to clean up as soon as possible, and with that in mind, here are some ways to get it done.

Get Help

Trying to clean up by yourself after a party isn’t always something you can do by yourself. Yes, if the gathering was a relatively small one and it was just a few people in your home, picking up their discarded plates and drink bottles isn’t such a hardship, but if it was bigger, perhaps a party in a community center or a big event rather than a small party, then you’ll probably need help.

Ask your friends and family to give you a hand (it’s even better if they were at the party, of course!) or perhaps hire some cleaners to do the job for you. Depending on the size of the party and how much trash there is, you could also think about dumpster rentals because otherwise, it’s going to take a lot of effort and time to get all the trash to the dump yourself. In the end, the more help you can get, the better.

Tackle Stains Immediately

Stains are something that can often come about after a party – with a lot of people milling about and perhaps dancing, as well as the food and drink they’ll be enjoying, spills are almost inevitable, and those spills can lead to stains on your carpets and rugs.

The key thing is to assume this is going to happen and have a plan in place to deal with it as soon as possible. It’s your choice as to whether you want to keep an eye out for potential stains and handle them during the party (not everyone is going to want to do that) or get to them once everyone has left, but if that’s your choice (and it will be for most people), then you’ll need to do it as quickly as possible. Research what’s best to tackle each specific stain (red wine stains will need a different course of action compared to salsa dip, for example), and get the cleaning products you’ll need in advance so you can pounce as soon as the floor is clear.

Start Early

Do you want to wait until the next day to deal with the mess of the party? That might seem like a good idea, but it’s not really – if you can, it’s actually better to at least start cleaning up once the last guest has left. You probably won’t feel like it, but you’ll feel even less like clearing up the next day when you’re tired or have to go to work – or both.

By cleaning up immediately, you’ll still have the energy you had during the party, and the job will probably be done more quickly. Plus, when you get up the next day to a clean (or at least mostly clean) house, you’ll feel much more relaxed and your memories of the party will be happier ones.
